In the item entitled Oil Exploration Deal With Tunisia - Similar Deal With Libya Being Looked Into, which appeared in The Times yesterday, it was reported that "following the joint oil exploration and exploitation agreement signed between Malta and Tunisia on Monday, Foreign Minister Michael Frendo said the government did not exclude the possibility of signing a similar agreement with Libya".
The Foreign Ministry pointed out that during the press conference on the agreement reached with Tunisia, Dr Frendo had said that Malta "does not exclude [an] agreement with whichever of our neighbours, whether Libya or Italy in particular. We have very good relations with Libya. Today we are speaking about what we concluded with Tunisia".
Asked whether there were plans to hold discussions with Libya, Dr Frendo replied: "Yes, there are plans; in fact I held discussions with Libya in January when I went there to speak to Minister Siala and we agreed as well to continue with technical discussions on this subject matter".
