An article in the magazine Tas-Sliema, written by Michael Briguglio, prompted me to send this photo and letter.
Mr Briguglio is a member of the Sliema council representing Alternattiva Demokratika. He writes and I quote his exact words: "A sub-committee responsible for maintenance of public gardens and soft areas was set up. Constant supervision was made of works carried out, resulting in improvements, from Independence Gardens all through the promenade...."
I would like to ask this gentleman a question. If this photo were a picture of his back garden would he be happy with the result of that maintenance? I certainly would not. I acknowledge that the mentioned gardens are well maintained but we should not be treated like idiots. The public can distinguish the good from the bad. The soft areas on the promenade have been a disgrace from the start. This is not my first letter on this subject and I hope the new councillors will do something to improve these soft areas as well as with the lights on the trees, which could look nice if placed around the branches and not under them.
I do realise that the front is not the ideal place for plants but, as I said before, it is better to have nothing than something substandard.
