I refer to the letters in connection with the handyman service offered by the Department of Elderly and Community Care (February 18 and 21).

According to the records kept at the department, there is no pending request for any handyman service under the name of Maria Dolores Spiteri from Attard. On February 20, we asked The Times to contact Mrs Spiteri in order for the department to clarify the situation. With regard to Vincent Aquilina's case, I would like to highlight the fact that, on any given day, the handyman service has a number of requests scheduled for attention. Additional assignments are slotted in the set schedule, time and manpower permitting.

In addition I also confirm that the handyman service offers a range of about 70 repair jobs that vary from electricity repairs to plumbing, carpentry and transport of items. The three additional jobs listed by Mr Aquilina are not comprised in this list and therefore could not be tackled by the service.

Finally, allow me to reiterate that almost 1,000 elderly clients in Malta used the handyman service between January and December last year. We regret that Mr Aquilina was dissatisfied with this service and would like both Mrs Spiteri and Mr Aquilina to contact us at their earliest convenience in order to see how we can remedy this situation.
