IT and Public Investment Minister Austin Gatt said on television last night that on the one hand he was pleased Labour had pledged support to the SmartCity@Malta IT village project but he was also rather worried.

Dr Gatt told his interviewer on the Nationalist Party's Net TV it was good to know the Labour leader had given the project's Dubai-based investors a guarantee that a Labour government would fully support the project.

However, he was also concerned. This, Dr Gatt explained, was because since his office had been assured by the man heading the Malta project in Dubai that none of the investors had contacted Alfred Sant or the Labour Party, then somebody must have been presenting himself as a promoter, when he was not.

In the circumstances, Dr Gatt said he would appreciate if Dr Sant were to say who contacted him, even if confidentially.

The minister said he had no problem in giving Dr Sant all details about the project. Indeed, he was welcome to meet the promoters when they visited Malta.
