No serious political party seeks to run an election campaign by bamboozling the public with highly contentious, self-rewarding percentages of work done over work promised.
Under Alfred Sant's scheme, if a Labour council had promised to fill 100 potholes and succeeded thanks to government money, it scores 100 per cent. If a Nationalist council had promised to build 100 roads and fill 100 potholes, but only succeeded in building 99 roads and filling 100 potholes, it will, in Dr Sant's logic, be inferior to a Labour council.
This is a deplorable confidence trick devoid of any respect for the people the Labour Party hopes will vote for them.
What we would like to hear Dr Sant pronounce is if he still intends to impose a door tax and a sewage tax as he was evidently planning to do during his short stay in office.
There are many such as me who resent being treated like nincompoops by the likes of Dr Sant.
