The Island Car Club national HillClimb and Sprint championship 2006 kicked off last Sunday with its first venue held at Mizieb, Mellieha.

The ICC would like to thank the Mellieha Local Council who granted permission to hold this successful event, the Police force, St Johns Ambulance Service, Wardens, security and all helpers.

The weather permitted a great event. We had 44 participants in all with different groups starting from Autocross cars to standard road cars, modified saloon cars and single-seaters.

The race started from the bottom of the hill up to the finish at the top of the hill intersecting the main road from Selmun towards Pinellu.

The length of the hill is about 800 metres with the best time of the day clocked at 41.454 seconds. This time was achieved by overall winner of the day Lino Brincat in his Alfa Romeo Dallara single-seater in Group 6 class2.

Second overall Nicolai Degiorio with his Highly Tuned Special Saloon Lancia Integrale Group 2/Class 5 clocked a remarkable time of 42.453 seconds.

Third overall was achieved by Mathew Zammit with his Single Seater Van Diemen in Group 6/Class1 clocking at 42.82 seconds.

The next venue is scheduled for Saturday, March 18, at Mistra Bay.
