Another sector which government has stated needs to be addressed and regulated is temporary work, otherwise known as temping. The UHM has also highlighted the importance of temping agencies.

In its Budget 2005 proposals, NCW recommended temping as a means to further increase female participation in the labour market. Discussions on the legal framework and provisions to encourage this sector should be a priority.

While in Malta we are lagging behind in this sector, the European Union has proposed a new directive to regulate the working conditions of temporary workers, guaranteeing no less favourable treatment than that of employees in the company to which they are sent.

NCW believes that this measure should be pushed forward as one of the initiatives of the EU's Year of Workers Mobility 2006.
