It's every child's dream to be let loose in a cinema to watch all the films s/he desires and it need not cost a bomb if they can wait until Children's Cinema Day on March 4.

At a cost of just Lm1, children should be able to persuade their parents (who pay Lm1.50) to spend the day at the cinema and even watch five films if they can manage to sit down for so long.

Children's Cinema Day, organised twice a year by KRS Films Distributors, is an anticipated event among those who are 12 years and under and more than 24,000 people flocked to the cinema for the last edition.

For the upcoming 12th edition, KRS is presenting no fewer than 200 shows on 40 big screens with a variety of animated features, action thrillers, comedies and fantasy adventures.

Among the expected favourites is the animated film Chicken Little, about a courageous chicken which, after ruining its reputation with the town, must come to the rescue of fellow citizens when aliens start an invasion.

The adventure of Lassie, a beloved dog that was sold because the family was in financial crisis, should also prove to be popular with the whole family.

Those who have not had the chance to watch The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, King Kong, or Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, because of studying or exams, now have the chance to catch up.

Older children and accompanying parents would certainly appreciate Pride and Prejudice, starring Keira Knightly, and the comedy Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon.

The choice of films includes the comedy Cheaper by the Dozen 2; the comedy fantasy Nanny McPhee starring Emma Thompson; Big Momma's House 2; the animated adventure Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit; the space adventure Zathura; The Legend of Zorro, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Antonio Banderas; Oliver Twist; Spider-Man 2; Madagascar; Goal!; Sky High; and the family drama Dreamer.

All the movies showing on the day carry a PG or U classification and are suitable for children. A mini poster of the different films will be given with every child ticket purchased.

Films showing at all the cinemas in Malta start at 9 a.m. with the last performance at 7 p.m. The two-screen cinema in Gozo will be holding afternoon and early evening shows.

Children's Cinema Day will be celebrated at Eden Century Cinemas in St George's Bay and Galleria in Fgura; Empire Cinemas, Bugibba; Embassy Cinema World, Valletta; The New Sun City Cine Palais, Marsascala, and the Citadel in Gozo.

Booking opens on Monday. Early booking is recommended.
