The Malta Table Football Sports Association (MTFSA) has just organised two tournaments as part of its championship series to determine the top player of the season.
The first was played on February 10. Joseph Mifsud took the honours after beating Massimo Cremona 2-1 in the final.
Cremona had a fine start and took an early lead. But, Mifsud produced a strong response and after scoring a late equaliser, he struck a superb winner in extra-time.
Thanks to his victory, Mifsud has strengthened his lead in the national rankings and now enjoys a 120-point advantage over the second-placed Cremona.
There were 18 players taking part in the other tournament on February 12. The major surprise here was the elimination of Hansel Mallia from the group stages after losing 2-1 to Samwel Bartolo.
In the semi-finals, Charles Aquilina had the better of Bartolo 1-0 while Mark Gauci beat Cremona in extra-time.
Aquilina then went on to beat Gauci 2-1 in the final to move up to fourth in the latest rankings list.
