World renowned Dutch jazz pianist Mike del Ferro will be performing at St James Cavalier on Saturday and Sunday.
Mr del Ferro has an affinity with Malta and this will be his third visit, having performed at the Jazz Festival alongside Coco York and Charles Gatt in 2003 and at Caravaggio's La Mostra Impossibile in Vittoriosa the following year.
Mr del Ferro said he was overwhelmed by the talent on the island and he has always commented about the lack of support and training facilities available to musicians of this genre.
Mr del Ferro's reputation as a soloist, accompanist, composer and arranger has led to his performing, recording and touring on major venues all over the world with musicians such as Toots Thielemans, Jack DeJohnette, Oscar Castro Neves, Scott Hamilton, Richard Galliano, Harold Land, Norma Winstone and Benny Bailey.
Mr del Ferro is not only a "pure" jazz pianist but he loves many kinds of music and plays different styles. His bill at St James will include original compositions, jazz standards and opera/jazz fusion.
The show starts at 8 p.m. on both nights - it will be a different programme each time. For tickets call 2122 3200 or 2122 3216, or send an e-mail to: boxoffice@sjcav.org.
