As a Sliema candidate at the next local council elections, I strongly object to overdevelopment and would strive to conserve our Sliema heritage. On the other hand we cannot object to flats being built. My point is that as much as possible, if I am elected to the council, I would object to the destruction of houses that form part of our heritage but would find no objection to buildings that are of little cultural value.

I would also strive to put in place a system where the developer is overseen by the council. Alternative routes for traffic would need to be set up and if need be the council would make use of one-way streets to allow traffic to flow smoothly. Before any roads are closed the council would make sure vehicles would not get caught in streets with no exit.

Where possible I would want to restrict the size of heavy vehicles passing through Sliema streets and those that are above the limit would be fined by wardens. This would help maintain the pavements that have just been built by the council. These are only a few of my proposals on this subject. If anybody would like to discuss such matters please send an e-mail to galeafam01@onvol.net
