O Russia's Liliya Shobukhova smashed the women's world indoor record in the 3,000m. The 28-year-old clocked a time of eight minutes 27.86 seconds at the Russian national championships to better the mark of 8:29.15 set by Ethiopia's Berhare Adere in 2002.

O Russia's Liliya Shobukhova smashed the women's world indoor record in the 3,000m. The 28-year-old clocked a time of eight minutes 27.86 seconds at the Russian national championships to better the mark of 8:29.15 set by Ethiopia's Berhare Adere in 2002. Yelena Soboleva also broke the women's 1,500m world record. Soboleva, 23, clocked 3:58.28, beating the previous best of 3:59.98 set by American Regina Jacobs on Feb. 1, 2003.
