In recognition of the Vodafone Passport, Vodafone Group's pricing initiative to drive usage and deliver greater value to customers, the company has been awarded 'Best Roaming Product or Service' at the 2006 GSM Association Awards Ceremony in Barcelona, Spain.

The Vodafone Group last week released statistics showing that, to date, over five million customers have subscribed to Vodafone Passport, with more than 100,000 joining each week.

Company research shows that these customers are both talking more and paying less for mobile calls when abroad. Furthermore, average roaming costs per minute with Vodafone Passport have fallen by over 30 per cent since last year.

"Vodafone Passport introduced a breakthrough roaming pricing architecture for Vodafone and its partner networks around the world, resulting in unmatched simplicity and value for customers by enabling them to keep their domestic frame of reference abroad," Anthony Pizzuto, Roaming and Interconnect Business manager at Vodafone, said.

Vodafone Passport was launched in Malta last August as the Vodafone Travel Promise, offering Maltese roaming customers simplicity and better value for roaming services, through which they are able to call home at local rates with only a connection fee of 50c added per call.

Vodafone customers can also receive calls at just 50c for every 10 minutes.

The Vodafone Travel Promise is available to Vodafone Malta customers roaming on the Vodafone network in Albania, Australia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the UK, as well as customers roaming on SFR in France, Proximus in Belgium and Swisscom Mobile in Switzerland.
