Sweden striker Henrik Larsson has signed an 18-month contract with hometown club Helsingborg, taking him from Barcelona in the close season, the Swedish first division club said yesterday.
"We're obviously incredibly happy we've made this deal and to get Henrik back to Helsingborg," chairman Sten-Inge Fredin said in a statement on the club's website.
Larsson will join the club immediately after the World Cup finals in Germany which end in July.
"I am a Helsingborg man from the beginning. For me there was no other alternative," Larsson was quoted by Swedish TV channel SVT as saying earlier yesterday.
Larsson said last month that he would leave Spanish champions Barcelona at the end of this season.
The 34-year-old missed most of last season with a knee injury, and has only had limited chances this year playing as cover for leading scorer Samuel Eto'o.
