Boiler malfunction causes widespread power cuts

A boiler malfunction at the Marsa power station led to blackouts in various localities in southern and central Malta at 7.50 a.m. yesterday, Enemalta said.

Enemalta said, some 60 megawatts of load were temporarily lost from the system.

The electricity service was restored in all localities by 9.04 a.m. except in parts of Zebbug where the supply could not be restored immediately due to a distribution fault. The electricity service in most of Zebbug was restored by 10.39 a.m., the corperation said.

On Monday at 10.55 p.m. the electricity service was interrupted in various localities due to a malfunction on another boiler also in Marsa when about 60 megawatts of load were temporarily lost from the system due to the tripping of the boiler.

The electricity service was restored in stages and the supply was restored in all localities by 00.15 a.m.
