The Algerian prisoner who escaped from prison on Sunday, is still on the run, the police said. He was remanded in custody last April after being arraigned under two aliases and charged with trafficking in over a kilogramme of heroin and committing the crime within 100 metres of a school or youth centre. He was arraigned under the names Mohamed Galoul of Algeria and Blgacem Merabet of Libya.

He was also charged with using a forged passport.

The drugs were allegedly seized by drug squad police in a raid in Dingli Street, Sliema after a tip-off. Anybody having information on the prisoner is asked to phone the police on 2122 1111 or 2122 4001.
