An Algerian awaiting trial for drug trafficking escaped from Corradino prison yesterday, the police said.

Mohammed Galou, 26 was noted missing from the prison at 3.30 p.m.

The man was arraigned under two aliases last April and charged with trafficking in over a kilogramme of heroin. He was arraigned under the names Mohamed Galoul of Algeria and Blgacem Merabet of Libya.

He was also charged with making use of a forged passport.

The drugs were allegedly seized by drug squad police in a raid in Dingli Street, Sliema.

Anybody having information on the prisoner is asked to phone the police on 2122 1111 or 2122 4001.
