New SsangYong 4X4 SAV

Local SsangYong importer Michael Attard Limited have launched the Kyron X-Transition, a 4x4 sports activity vehicles (SAV) that slots in below its upper Rexton sports utility vehicle (SUV), and comes hard on the heels of the Rodius seven-seat MPV that went on sale last May.

With the arrival of the Kyron, SsangYong's model renewal has moved up a further gear. Designed by Ken Greenley, SsangYong Motor Co.'s British creative director, some 37,000 are to be exported this year, many of them to Europe, where the company is on track for a massive sales boost to 40,000 a year.

First shown as the SVR concept at the recent Seoul Motor Show, the Kyron's European styling is blended with proven Korean build quality and technology. Its sophisticated engineering, as shown by class-leading multilink rear suspension, is matched by an emphasis on safety.

Kyron's electronic control systems comprise anti-lock brakes with EBD, brake assist, active rollover protection (ESP) and hill descent control.

The five-door, five-seater is available with a new-generation 141 bhp 2.0-litre Xdi common-rail diesel engine with 310 Nm of torque (pulling power). This is mated to a five-speed T-Tronic automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency is 7.7 l/100 km (33 mpg).

SsangYong says much attention has also been paid to the roomy interior as well as to reduce noise, vibration and harshness. The Kyron is 4,660 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,740 mm high. It can tow 2,300 kg braked trailer weight. Minimum ground clearance is 193 cm.
