The Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment, George Pullicino, yesterday presented the International Green Flag to St Joseph Schools in Paola and Blata l-Bajda for achieving environmental standards.

They are the first two schools to receive an international certification since the EcoSchools project was launched in Malta three years ago. There are 36 countries with schools flying the Green Flag worldwide.

EcoSchools aims at mobilising and empowering students to adopt an active role in environmental decision-making and action in their school and community. The project is coordinated by the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment, the Ministry for Education and Nature Trust.

Xummiemu, WasteServ's mascot promoting the reduction and recycling of waste, is now teamed up with EcoSchools.
