"Brand" Malta is trying to market itself within special interest niches. Two of these are "culture and history" and "countryside walks" - in other words, with people who are interested in seeing the cultural and historical aspects of the islands and those interested in doing some activity during their holidays.
We often hear calls for the tourism product to be revamped. However, fortifications of great importance during the British rule, in places such as Delimara, have been utterly abandoned and are covered with litter and overgrown trees.
Some of the environment in the area is in a disgusting state even though Delimara point offers such a picturesque view that can be enjoyed by any visitor. Delimara's tourism potential should be considered because it covers both niches mentioned above.
While cycling in the area it is not uncommon for me to meet tourists who stop me to ask for directions to Delimara. The area is utterly beautiful and should be protected from any development. The authorities should ensure that the environment is clean while the fortifications should be restored and open to visitors.
