Kalkara mayor Michael Cohen has been appointed rapporteur by the EU Committee of Regions.

The Malta Labour Party said Mr Cohen, who is representative of MLP councillors in the Local Councils Association, would deal with the sustainable development unit of the committee.

He will be responsible for drawing up a report on the protection of the sea by the European Commission.

Mr Cohen was nominated by the European Socialists.
