Last weekend three Maltese players, Massimo Cremona, Joseph Mifsud and Hansel Mallia, took part in the Major of Elbeuf tournament in France.

The teams tournament was played on Day One with Cremona figuring for his team CS Reggiana who progressed to the semi-finals where they were eliminated by Perugia 3-0.

The quarter-final match between CS Reggiana and Hennuyer saw the participation of three Maltese players as Mifsud and Mallia both play for the Belgian side. Reggiana won 2-0.

Napoli won the teams' event after beating Perugia 2-1 in the final.

In the singles tournament, Mifsud reached the last eight stage but was ousted by Portugal's Louriero 0-2 on shoots after a 1-1 draw. Cremona and Mallia were eliminated in the last 32. Cremona lost to French player Donval 2-3 and Mallia to Belgium's Golger 1-3.

A total of 110 players, from seven nations, took part in all categories. Bolognino, of Italy, was the tournament's best player. In the final, he edged Spain's Flores 2-1.

The next event for the three Maltese players will be the Gran Prix of Denmark on February 25.

Meanwhile, it was announced that professional table football equipment firm Profibase will be sponsoring Cremona. An agreement was reached between Cremona and Dr Marco de Angelis, Profibase director, recently.
