Silverstone Racing Circuit said it had selected a company best-known for running horse races as the preferred bidder to operate the motor-racing venue for the next 25 years.

Silverstone, home of Formula One's British Grand Prix until at least 2009, hopes revitalised facilities operated by Northern Racing match up to new venues like those in Bahrain and China.

Northern Racing, which runs nine horse racing venues in Britain, said members of the British Racing Drivers' Club, which owns the Northamptonshire circuit, would get details of its proposals on February 22.
