Fullback Josh Lewsey has been ruled out of England's Six Nations match against Italy in Rome with a shoulder injury, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) said.

Lewsey went off with a damaged left shoulder after 22 minutes of England's 47-13 victory over holders Wales in their opening game at Twickenham on Saturday.

"Josh has had a scan and been reviewed by the medical team," England coach Andy Robinson said.

"Reassuringly the scan did not show any structural damage but he will not be available for selection for Saturday," he was quoted as saying on the RFU website.

"It is unfortunate for Josh, England and London Wasps and we wish him a quick recovery."

Robinson has drafted Bristol's England A scrumhalf Shaun Perry into a 31-man squad to prepare for the Italy game. He replaces Pete Richards of Gloucester who is nursing a shoulder injury.

Four other players have been included from the England A team that beat Italy A 57-13 last Friday, Perpignan prop Perry Freshwater, Leicester wing Tom Varndell, Wasps centre Stuart Abbott and Sale flanker Magnus Lund.

Hooker George Chuter has recovered from a knee injury that ruled him out of the Wales match and is back along with Sale's Chris Jones and Gloucester lock Alex Brown.

Italy, who host Saturday's match at Rome's Stadio Flaminio, lost their opener 26-16 to Ireland in Dublin.
