The former dean of the faculty of law, professor of civil law and president of the Chamber of Advocates, Joseph Ganado (right), will travel down memory lane in a talk organised by the Strickland Foundation tomorrow.
Pen Portraits of Various Members of the Legal Professions - Personal Reminiscences will describe the qualities of a number of lawyers and legal personalities whom Prof. Ganado has rubbed shoulders with in the course of his long career.
The main ones include Victor Caruana and Judge Joseph Flores, "who are not with us anymore", but who left their mark on Prof. Ganado.
Called to the bar in 1947, he did his obligatory period of practice prior to receiving his warrant to work as an advocate with both Prof. Caruana, who specialised in civil and commercial law, and Judge Flores, whose focus was criminal law.
Prof. Ganado worked closely with Prof. Caruana, who lectured in civil law. "I was his assistant both at university and in his legal profession," he recalls.
Although he intends to concentrate on these two legal personalities, Prof. Ganado will also be referring to others. He will be reminiscing about members of the legal profession both in Malta and in the UK, having spent over three years there and having been a lecturer at the University College London.
However, he will not be mentioning those who are still practising, he said.
The talk by Prof. Ganado, who is also a council member of the foundation, is the first of a series, which are not necessarily connected to law, being organised by the Strickland Foundation once a month.
It is being held at Villa Parisio, the seat of the foundation in Lija, at 6.45 p.m., and members of the legal profession and law students are invited to attend, apart from other members of the public.
