Obituary

ANASTASI. On February 4, ORESTE, aged 86, passed peacefully away at his residence in Sliema. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Polly née Schembri, his children Albert and his wife Vicki, Bernard, Clare and her husband Mark Guillaumier, his brothers Francis and Victor and their families, and his grandchildren Cindy, Betta, Susannah, Alain and Martina. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves Capua Hospital today at 2 p.m. for St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to St Patrick School, Sliema, will be appreciated.

PEYRE. On February 5, at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, MICHEL, aged 63, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Joan, his children Patrice and his fiancée Sandra Zammit Tabona, Stephane and his partner Laetitia Beranger and Natacha and her fiancé Andrew Zammit, his brother Georges and his wife Nicole, his sister Anne-Marie Joly and Jacques Joly and their families residing in France, his in-laws Charles and Doris Farrugia, Marlene and Charles Azzopardi, Salvino and Tanya Farrugia, Josette and Joe Galea, other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Lord grant him eternal rest.

Requiem Masses

A Mass for the repose of the souls of JOSEPH and CECILE COPPINI will be celebrated today at 6.30 p.m. at Stella Maris parish church, Sliema.

On the thirtieth day from the death of Chev. Dr ANTHONY CUSCHIERI (ex-CGMO), a Mass for the repose of his soul will be said today at 6.45 p.m. at the old Carmelite parish church of Sta Venera. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

A Mass for the repose of the soul of HELEN VELLA will be celebrated on February 8 at 6.30 p.m. at St Patrick's church, Sliema.

Geography seminar

The Geography Division at the Mediterranean Institute will be holding a one-day seminar on physical geography with the support of the Geographical Society of Malta at University House, Tal-Qroqq on Wednesday.

The seminar was made possible through the Socrates/Erasmus mobility programme where students and staff exchanges between the two universities are done regularly.

There will be presentations by the Geography Department of the University of Portsmout in the UK.

The afternoon sessions examine the philosophy of physical geography and the theory and practice of shoreline management in the UK.

Physics lecture

The Department of Physics at the University of Malta and the Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics (IAA) will hold a talk on Gravity, Gauge Theory and Quantum Physics at the Erin Serracino Inglott (ESI) Hall on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The former French Ambassador to Malta Didier Destremau presented a copy of his book Le Fabuleux Destin De Malte (Malta: A Fabulous Destination) to Foreign Minister Michael Frendo at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Valletta.
