I reckon the Maltese electoral community is divided into three segments. Unfortunately, the largest includes those die-hards who pledge their allegiance to a party no matter what. If the leader were to kick them in the teeth, they would try to persuade their friends that it was in the national interest.

The second segment, which is on the rise, includes those who choose to use their mental ability and after sifting through the partisan interpretation of reality decide to whom they would trust the management of this country.

The third segment, hopefully small, includes those people who use their voting document as an economic coupon, redeemable for rewarding post-election postings, consultancies and contracts.

The second segment requires more than thin air postulating - which describes what Alfred Sant did during his participation on Bondiplus.

Dr Sant once again missed the opportunity to convince and although it may be already very late in the day, he should undertake the mammoth exercise of polishing his political act, or otherwise call it a day.

Malta needs a political alternative.
