Hamas won the elections in Palestine and it was no surprise to me because Fatah did not deliver. It was their fault to some extent. However, the main culprit is Israel.
During the sixth day of the war Israel occupied the Sinai, the Golan Heights and that part of Jordan which nowadays is called the West Bank. Eventually the Sinai was given up, the Golan Heights remained in Israeli hands (for security reasons which I do not blame them for until a peace treaty is drawn up with Syria) but kept the West Bank which they started to call Samaria and Judea. They never gave the land back to Jordan.
The Jordanians, I believe, were not so anxious to have this land back, because most of the people living there were Palestinian refugees who had fled when the new state of Israel was created.
Israel had the right opportunity to help these refugees to have their new Palestine. Instead they "annexed" this land to have a greater Israel. This they started to do by creating new Jewish settlements in the conquered land. I cannot imagine how they are going to give up this so-called West Bank, road map or no road map.
The situation now is that the Palestinians suffer. The Israelis suffer. And the rest of the world suffers, too.
