Two Maltese schools are to be awarded the International Green Flag status for the first time, Nature Trust (Malta) said.

The Green Flag is an international certification of environmental education given to schools by the Federation for Environmental Education Europe.

Nature Trust, as the representative of FEE in Malta, is coordinating the EkoSkola programme.

At the end of the last scholastic year, 29 schools were taking part in the programme. St Joseph of Blata l-Bajda and St Joseph Mater Boni Consilii of Paola will be awarded the Green Flag certification during the next national EkoSkola seminar to be held on Thursday.

The two schools managed to achieve their planned aims and will be allowed to display the Green Flag logo and fly the Green Flag for EcoSchools inside their school boundaries.

The trust encouraged more schools to embark on environmental education through participation in the EkoSchools programme.

Attending the EkoSkola seminar would be useful in this regard and interested schools are encouraged to contact Nature Trust by Sunday.
