A magistrate has ruled for the indictment of a notary charged with misappropriation and fraud.

Magistrate Abigail Lofaro ruled that there were sufficient reasons for the indictment of notary Sandro Schembri Adami, 42, of Valletta, who is pleading not guilty to the misappropriation of over Lm1,000 to the detriment of Joseph Verzin and defrauding the man in December 2004.

The prosecution, led by Police Inspector Kevin Borg, is claiming that Dr Schembri Adami misappropriated the money that Mr Verzin gave him to pay stamp duty over the purchase of a property.

This is one of several cases, before various magistrates, in which Dr Schembri Adami is pleading not guilty to charges of fraud and misappropriation.

Only last Tuesday, magistrate Saviour Demicoli ruled for the notary's indictment in a different case where he is charged with defrauding several people of Lm13,670 between them.
