Cleared of drug dealing

A Mosta man has been cleared of trafficking in heroin after a magistrate ruled that the testimony of two main witnesses in the case was riddled with inconsistencies.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera cleared Anthony Zahra, 30, of trafficking in the drug on and before April 2002. The magistrate heard Marlon Parnis and his wife Carane explain that they had bought heroin from Mr Zahra. But, the magistrate noted, their testimony was not consistent and she was not convinced that the two were telling the truth.

In light of his, and the lack of other witnesses, the magistrate cleared Mr Zahra of the charges.

Police Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted.

Lawyer Joseph Brincat appeared for Mr Zahra.
