The National Council for the Maltese Language said the call for applications for a proofreading course in Maltese has been most encouraging.
More than 50 students have applied, Manwel Mifsud, council chairman said.
Starting on Monday, the evening course will run for a year. Students will be trained in Maltese orthography and in professional proofreading. Some of the applicants are already engaged in this type of work but are not academically qualified for the job.
Prof. Mifsud said that next month, the council will be organising four seminars on the Maltese language in collaboration with the Department for Local Government.
