Malta will play Austria at the National Stadium on February 7, 2007 to celebrate 50 years of international football for the national team.

It was on February 24, 1957 that Malta hosted Austria at the old Gzira Stadium in what is universally accepted as the national team's first official match in the international arena. Malta lost 3-2, Sammy Nicholl and Tony Cauchi getting the goals for the home side.

Joe Mifsud, the MFA president, said that arrangements are already in place for a friendly match to be held between Malta and Austria next year as a way of commemorating Malta's international debut in 1957.

The MFA also plan to invite the players who represented Malta on that landmark occasion to attend next year's friendly.
