The exhibition of torture instruments, The Art of Pain, which was hosted at the Inquisitor's Palace until the end of the year, was visited by 40,000 people over a period of 18 months, according to Heritage Malta.

A large number of visitors were students and senior citizens and more than half came as individuals as opposed to being in a group.

According to head curator at Heritage Malta, Kenneth Gambin, most of the Maltese visitors were also entering the Inquisitor's Palace for the first time.

Heritage Malta is now planning a national exhibition of Good Friday statues and statuettes at the Inquisitor's Palace in Vittoriosa.

The exhibition will open on March 8 and will run until mid-April.

On Maundy Thursday, the organisation will extend the opening hours at the palace till late in the evening. The exhibition will also be open to the public on Good Friday.
