Any Seat customers looking for that sporty image can now consider the new Seat Leon, which was launched on January 19 at the Malta Classic Car Collection private museum in Qawra, as part of the Seat's new generation line-up.

Designed by Walter de Silva and his team, the stunning five-door model with coupé is the second of its generation after the Altea. As opposed to the Altea it is lower and sportier, liking this marque to Audi.

The Leon comes closest to expressing the very ultimate in sportiness and innovative design that is common to all Seat models. The new Leon combines quality and value with an engaging drive that fully justifies Seat's claim to deliver "Auto emoción".

The styling of the headlamps, the alluring lines of the bonnet together with a large radiator grille combine perfectly with the distinctive wheel arches.

The car's dynamic image is further enhanced by the repositioning of the door mirrors that are now attached directly to the door's panelling.

As explained by Mr Joe Duca, sales division manager at Mizzi Automotive Division Ltd, the Seat brand is closely related to sport. "This car should appeal to people who are sporty and young at heart," he said.

The new Seat Leon is now longer by 131 mm, wider by 26 mm and slightly higher by 19 mm than the previous model and has sleeker looks.

The track and wheelbase have also been increased, giving better roadholding. Even the boot is now designed to provide more space.

Mr Duca thanked Carol Galea, director of the museum, for hosting the first launch of a new car at the premises, which are yet to be officially opened.

The new Seat Leon offers a choice of five different engines, three petrol and two diesel, which all comply with Euro IV emission standards. Power varies from 102 bhp to 180 bhp from engines that include the 2.0-litre FSI petrol and 1.9 TDI.

Standard equipment on both models includes air-conditioning, power steering, six air bags, ABS, remote central locking, front electric windows and a CD player. Starting price for the 1.6 petrol is Lm10,100 while the 1.9TDi diesel model starts at Lm11,700.

The all-new Seat Leon five-door sports car is on sale at the Seat showroom in National Road, Blata l-Bajda, For more information or a test drive call 2122-3010.
