I have just returned from Malta where, on Dingli Cliffs, I saw a considerable number of wild birds in very small cages. Their alarm cries alert the birds migrating from Italy on their way to Tunisia to breed. The wild birds are then trapped (netted), then they take them away and eat them.

I am given to understand that the same procedure occurs in Cyprus. In Egypt they eat the pigeons. I do not hold out much hope for these, and any other countries, where migrating wild birds are eaten, from being afflicted by bird flu.
