One per cent of the global population has epilepsy and in Malta there are over 2,900 persons who have this condition. Epilepsy is a hidden disability and many people may not know that a person has epilepsy.

They will only know if they are told by that person, the person's family or if that person has a seizure in front of them. This may have a negative effect on the person's social life.

The Caritas Malta Epilepsy Association's main aim is to help these people have a better quality of life. To do this the association has joined in a Global Campaign Against Epilepsy, being organised by the World Health Organisation, the International League Against Epilepsy and International Bureau of Epilepsy.

The main reason for this campaign is to increase awareness about epilepsy so that people will know about the condition and the stigma will hopefully be eradicated.

The National Conference on Epilepsy will be held on Saturday, February 18, from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at the New Dolmen Hotel, Bugibba.
