Opportunity to exchange culture and beliefs

This was the fifth meeting connected to our school - Birkirkara B's Comenius project even though we did not attend the first one.

On the other occasions we met in Italy, France and Malta. For this meeting held in Macugnaga, Northern Italy, between November 26 and December 1, four countries united (Northern Ireland, Italy, France and Malta).

During a get-together we planned the work to be carried out during this scholastic year. Last year the children involved had to publish six of their national legends in English, this being the adopted language. We feel very proud of our publication as we were the only group to publish it in book form. We were congratulated by all those who saw or received a copy.

This year's work is slightly different. We were to record our Christmas concert on DVD and send a home-made Christmas card to each country.

Each year we try to use Maltese crafts when sending the cards. This year we asked the school's crafts teacher, Miss Pace, to produce a crib in Maltese lace. The rest of the card was decorated by the children.

The highlight, however, will be the play we are to write and produce having as a background two of the legends we printed in our book of legends. These are to be filmed on location related to the stories and then to be recorded on DVD.

These exchanges are of great benefit to us all as we learn about cultures and beliefs, besides giving us a good opportunity to make new friends, exchange letters with foreign children and enjoy the scenery once we travel and visit the different countries.  All this thanks to the EUPU.
