Fish farms on Hurd Bank

The relocation of all existing fish farms into an area six kilometres away from shore is certainly a step in the right direction. However it would be much better if the chosen area were on Hurd Bank, a few kilometres further away.

A major industry on a world scale could be started there. The government should buy desired or rather, not in use oil rights with EU restructuring funds.

The rigs appropriately positioned quite a distance away from each other are meant to support the various nets by means of cables, rendering the whole system safe against very rough seas.

The rigs would furthermore serve as headquarters for all the operators. They would be equipped with a laboratory and all the necessary medical implements for continuous monitoring against disease, investigations and cross-breeding experiments.

Fish stock, particularly the large type tuna, would be prepared, ready for immediate export by means of vessels berthing alongside the rigs.

The Malta-Gozo helicopter service could be given a boost during its idle time as the helicopter could schedule a service from shore to rig to transport directors and personnel connected with the operation or other emergency duties.

The whole project will definitely create employment, bring in foreign exchange, provide safety against contamination and ensure clear and limpid water around us, one of our assets as a tourist destination.
