Tony Drago has failed to advance to the final stages of the Welsh Open after losing 5-3 to Scott MacKenzie in a final qualifying round match played yesterday in Prestatyn, Wales.

Drago, who meets India's Shokat Ali next Monday in a qualifying match for the Malta Cup at the Hilton Portomaso, won the initial frame yesterday. MacKenzie hit back to chalk up the next four frames and forge 4-1 ahead.

Drago kept fighting though, claiming the next two frames to bridge the gap to 4-3. MacKenzie soon regrouped to win the eighth frame and set up a last 32 match against Barry Pinches in March.

On Tuesday, Alex Borg lost to James Delaney 5-2 in the first qualifying round.
