A man from Pembroke was yesterday granted bail after he pleaded not guilty of trying to run over three traffic policemen and breaching traffic regulations.
Richard Southernwood, 43, was charged with driving wrong way, against the traffic flow, at Marsa on Tuesday night. He was further accused of jumping the red light on traffic lights at Marsa and with disobeying police orders at Marsa, Pietà, Sliema, St Julians and Pembroke.
He was further charged with reckless driving and overspeeding and with carrying a penknife without a licence.
The court appointed lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores to assist the accused, who insisted on being represented by lawyer Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici.
The court granted the accused bail against a deposit of Lm70 and a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.
Police Inspector Malcolm Spiteri prosecuted.
