Refuse collection in Sliema

I agree with Vincent Chetcuti (January 21) when he says that the best time to collect rubbish is between 8.30 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Mr Chetcuti refers to the fact that the Sliema local council has decided to change the refuse collection time from morning to afternoon.

Being the local councillor responsible for the environment, I would like to point out that I voted against this decision and insisted that the best time for domestic rubbish collection is around 9 a.m., precisely for the reason mentioned by Mr Chetcuti, namely that people who leave their home in the morning to work cannot take out their rubbish in the afternoon if they are at work!

Collection of rubbish in the afternoon is not fair on households in which both partners or the only adult living there are gainfully occupied.

Let's hope that in the next legislature the council will change this decision.
