Germany's Markus Winkelhock, son of the late Formula One racer Manfred, was announced as test driver for the Midland team this week.
Winkelhock, 25, tested for MF1 Racing in Jerez, Spain in December and impressed managing director Colin Kolles.
"Markus showed true class in the test before Christmas. He was immediately at home in a Formula One car and he will be a big asset to our development programme this year," Kolles said.
Midland, formerly Jordan, have signed up Dutchman Christijan Albers as one of their race drivers with Portugal's Tiago Monteiro expected to partner him.
