A collection of about 35 photographs of Tibet will be on show next month for a week at the premises of the Malta China Friendship Society in Valletta.

The exhibition will open on February 10.

The selection is just a few of thousands of photographs taken last year by 100 of the best photographers in the world.

Last year the cultural office of the Tibet Autonomous Region, in conjunction with the State Council for Information and the Chinese Photographic Association, invited photographers from l9 different countries to spend three weeks in Tibet. They were assigned to visit 100 different places in Tibet capturing the natural scenery, religious sights, cultural and decanal events, folk customs and the way of life and pastimes of the Tibetan people, factories, enterprises and life in the villages.

The photographers took no fewer than 150,000 images in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, Xigaza, Shanon and Nyngche Nagqn.

A special panel of judges chose the best 750 photographs. The photographs were exhibited in Beijing last July.

The exhibition is entitled Tibet In the Eye of 100 Photographers.
