Former winners of the Sportivi Nazzjonali contest will present awards to the top sports personalities of 2005 during Saturday's presentations ceremony which the Sportswriters Association will hold at the Dolmen Resort Hotel.

The Sportsman of the Year award will be presented by ex-national billiards and snooker champion Wilfred Axiaq. He was Malta's top sportsman in 1966 and 1971.

Carol Cassar Torreggiani, winner in 1987, will present the award to the new Sportswoman of the Year and Lolly Borg to the Team of the Year.

Borg, a former Malta international footballer, was Sportsman of the Year in 1961, the second year of the contest, now in its 45th edition.

Dr Raphael Patiniott, who dedicated most of his career to promote archery, will give the Official of the Year award and ASA vice-president Dr Michael Gialanzè the John Debattista Trophy to the most promising young athlete.

Disabled athletes who distinguished themselves in 2005 will receive their award from Mike Pace.

Pace has strong ties with the organisation that promotes sports for disabled athletes.
