A lawyer yesterday filed two libel suits against the editor of Malta Today and a journalist with the same weekly paper over two separate articles that appeared in last Sunday's issue.

Lawyer Peter Fenech filed one suit against Malta Today's editor Saviour Balzan over an article entitled Mutiny Because of a Bounty.

He filed the second suit against journalist James Debono over an article entitled As Government Waives Lm100,000 Bill Peter Fenech Claims Lm138,000, which appeared on the paper's front page.

In both writs, Dr Fenech claimed, as a fact, that he never personally owed money to the government or a government department. Neither did he ever form part of a company that owed any money to the government.

Lawyer Joseph Zammit Maempel signed both writs which were filed in the Magistrates' Court.
