A huge heap of domestic waste was dumped in Qormi's Wied is-Sewda over the weekend in what is thought to have been an act of vandalism.

A spokesman for the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry said two truck-loads of rubbish had been dumped.

The area had been cleaned up recently by the Cleansing Services Department, using European Union funds, in a bid to prevent flooding.

The spokesman said more than 12 kilometres of valleys had been cleaned over the past two years.

This weekend's dumping was the third in the span of a few weeks attributed to vandals.
