A bring-in site will be set up in Zurrieq next month, mayor Ignatius Farrugia said yesterday.
Contacted by The Times, Mr Farrugia said a study on this project was carried out in the locality over the past six months.
Zurrieq is the only village which does not yet have any bring-in sites, two Nationalist councillors, Melvyn Mangion and Mario Ellul, complained yesterday.
In a statement they said that the local council, which has a Labour majority, believes that Zurrieq residents should first be educated before being given the possibility of using bring-in sites.
The two councillors had put forward a motion in favour of the introduction of bring-in sites but it was opposed by the other councillors on the grounds that residents should first be asked whether they wanted bring-in sites and then educated on how to distinguish between the different types of waste.
They said an independent survey carried out by the village parish's environment commission found that 78 per cent of residents are in fact in favour of their introduction.
