Four jailed for killing barman
A 16-year-old girl and three men were jailed yesterday for a "rampage of violence" which ended in the manslaughter of a barman who had survived the 1999 Admiral Duncan pub bombing in London's Soho.
David Morley, 37, was beaten to death in October 2004 during a spree of attacks which the group engaged in for fun.
They were sentenced to a total of 44 years. "No one listening to this case as it unfolded could fail to have been affected by your selfishness and blindness to the suffering of others," Judge Barker told the Old Bailey.
"You behaved with total indifference for these unfortunate victims. No citizen in this country should be in fear of being subjected to this sort of behaviour." Mr Morley died after being attacked on the South Bank, a popular area of theatres, restaurants and nightspots along the River Thames.
A pathologist's report said his injuries were similar to those of someone who had fallen from a great height.
The four were acquitted of murder but found guilty of manslaughter during their trial last month. The jury heard how the group liked to attack strangers and video them on their mobile phones.
Of the gang, Darren Case, 19, Reece Sergeant, 21, and 17-year-old David Blenman, all got 12 years while 16-year old Chelsea O'Mahoney received eight years.
