A Latvian man was yesterday fined Lm100 when he admitted to assaulting a police officer and giving false information to the police in Qawra on Sunday.

On handing down judgment Magistrate Dennis Montebello heard how Ralfs Lismanis, 31, had an alcohol abuse problem and assaulted the officer while under the influence of alcohol.

The magistrate fined him Lm100 and ordered that Mr Lismanis attend an alcohol rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted.

Lawyer Franco Galea appeared for the accused.
